CPRS-KCS merger update

The US Surface transportation Board granted final approval of the CPRS-KCS deal on March 15, 2023. The merger was completed on April 14, 2023. This new Class I railroad company will be called Canadian Pacific Kansas City Limited and will operate under the reporting mark CPKC.


Please note that the CPRS-KCS merger will not be reflected in the PC*Miler Rail v29.2 product release. We have no information to report as to when the CPRS-KCS merger will be modeled in our data.

  • BCR – This railroad company is defunct; the successor railroad company is DCR per research. DCR operates on the Delmarva peninsula (DE, MD, VA).

Abandoned railroad track segments in Virginia

The following railroad track segments located on the Delmarva Peninsula in Virginia between Hallwood VA and Little Creek VA have been abandoned per research (including the railroad barge service between Cape Charles VA and Little Creek VA). This railroad line had previously served both DCR and NS. The newly deactivated DCR and NS stations from north to south include: Hallwood VA, Bloxom VA, Parksley VA, Tasley VA, Onley VA, Melfa VA, Keller VA, Painter VA, Belle Haven VA, Exmore VA, Nassawadox VA, Machipongo VA, Eastville VA, Cheriton VA, Bay View VA, Cape Charles VA and Little Creek VA.

BCR is a defunct railroad company. Removed BCR track ownership and track operating rights from link segments from Hallwood VA to Little Creek VA. SLRG was acquired by CXRG per Surface Transportation Board filing reported on December 20, 2022.

CSXT-ST merger information

The following sections below referencing “CSXT” and “ST” summarize the details of the merger between CSXT and ST in New England and Atlantic Canada. ST is a defunct railroad company as of March 1, 2023 per Railinc.

  1. All previous ST track ownership rights have been removed; CSXT has been awarded complete control of track ownership rights per the merger agreement.
  2. All previous ST track operating rights have been removed; CSXT has been awarded complete control of track operating rights per the merger agreement.


Other railroad companies impacted by CSXT-ST merger

PAR = Pan Am Railways, Inc.

  • Railinc no longer models Pan Am Railways stations and/or junctions in their current railroad databases. The same is true for the PC*Miler Rail database.
  • PAS = Pan Am Southern, LLC
  • All PAS stations and junctions are still currently active per Railinc.
  • All PAS track ownership rights are still currently modeled in PC*Miler Rail database.
  • All PAS track operating rights are still currently modeled in PC*Miler Rail database.


CSXT-ST merger stations updated by Railinc

The following number of stations in these states/provinces reflects the CSXT-ST merger:

  • Massachusetts (USA) = 46 CSXT stations were added.
  • New Brunswick (Canada) = 19 CSXT stations were added.
  • New Hampshire (USA) = 15 CSXT stations were added.
  • Maine (USA) = 118 CSXT stations were added.

Total = 198 newly activated CSXT stations located in portions of New England and Atlantic Canada.


CSXT-ST merger routing tips and notes for New England and Atlantic Canada

  • There are no (zero) CSXT track ownership and/or CSXT track operating rights beyond the Mattawamkeag ME station per CSXT map resource. All CSXT stations in Maine (USA) and New Brunswick (Canada) beyond the Mattawamkeag ME station are served by haulage agreements between CSXT and partner railroads.
  • Maine (USA) – CSXT does not have any track ownership rights and/or track operating rights beyond the Mattawamkeag ME station.
  • New Brunswick (Canada) – CSXT does not have any track ownership rights and/or track operating rights in this province. All CSXT stations in this province are served by haulage agreements between CSXT and partner railroads.
  • Vermont (USA) – There are no (zero) CSXT stations, junctions, track ownership rights, track operating rights, haulage agreements in this state.
