Customers have reported crashes when exiting PC*Miler Rail on older devices with limited memory. The crash may or may not include the error message displayed below.
If you experience this error, we recommend the following two steps to help optimize the way PC*Miler Rail loads and shuts down.
Step 1: Update the user.cfg file
- Locate the user.cfg file for PC*Miler Rail on your computer. It should be in the C:\ALK Technologies\{Rail Version name}\app folder.
- Change the settings under the [File Policies] section to the settings below. These new settings optimize the way PC*Miler Rail loads maps.

Step 2: Install the attached Windows registry settings
Attached to this article is a file titled PCMiler_registry_settings.reg. It includes settings that prevent PC*Miler from using hardware acceleration, which can lead to faster processing times and smoother performance on older machines.
- Download and install the registry file on your computer.
- You should see the follow settings under Avalon.Graphics added to your Windows Registry Editor.
